Spotlighting 51 Locally Owned Businesses In West Broward

The Project

We know people prefer to buy local. In fact, national companies are now branding themselves to look and feel like local businesses. Our mission is to help small locally owned businesses in the West Broward community expand their reach and grow their online presence.

One of the biggest challenges for locally owned businesses is establishing a strong community network, so that potential customers can find and choose local. This challenge is intensified by the ability of nationally owned businesses to invest large sums of money into branding, advertising and online networking.

We believe in supporting and investing in our local community. That’s why we started the Fifty One In project. Over the next year, our goal is to spotlight 51 locally owned businesses in our West Broward community. This will bring targeted information about them to the web, where the majority of people turn today to find what they are looking for. We also will promote local events and “live local” ideas, so you can easily follow what’s happening in your neighborhood to get out & get to know your neighbors.

These spotlights are just the beginning. We aim to build a quality comprehensive network for our community, so our neighbors can choose to support each other. If you are a local business owner, please contact us for more information about receiving a free spotlight.

Small Businesses Need Stronger Online Presence for Growth

succulents business websites need an update to growLet’s face it. Even though there’s a lot of buzz around buying local, nationally owned businesses and products still dominate our search engines.

Most people today typically break out their mobile devices and search for places to eat and shop on the go. If they find an outdated website, or worse, no website at all, consumers are likely to skip it for a business  with a strong, current online presence.

As I scout for locally owned businesses in West Broward, the most common problem I notice are static template websites that don’t work across all mobile platforms.  If your website still runs on flash, you are missing out on a large market of users who search on the go (Half of my visitors view from mobile devices). If your business doesn’t have a website, not only is it hard to find you, but you have limited control over your online appearance and voice.

It’s time for local business websites to get creative! Our sponsor and web development team, Five One Digital, showed us the importance of a building a local brand and taking control of our online voice. They designed our really cool website to be dynamic and they continue to help us understand what our audience wants from us.  By tracking and testing the user-experience of various site elements, they show us exactly what’s working and what’s falling flat. This goes beyond search engine and social media optimization and implements creative ways to get in (and stay in) the local market.

Not sure where to start? Five One Digital is offering a free one hour consultation for local businesses and artisans in our area. Five One Digital is a small local agency located in Sunrise, FL, and they wholeheartedly believe in the #LiveLocal cause.  Just mention you saw them on
